Our family is excited to be opening our second-generation home for limited short-term and monthly stays! The Farmhouse at Down Yonder Farm is a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom home built in 1909, with a large addition added in 1990. With original hardwood floors, bead board walls and ceilings, wide porches, and plenty of space, the house can easily host a large family or group of friends.

THE FARM: Down Yonder Farm is a 50-acre family property in northern Orange County, just 20 minutes from downtown Durham, 35 from Chapel Hill, and 15 from downtown Hillsborough. Set back half a mile from the road and surrounded by forest, you can expect quiet, beauty, and plenty of nature and history to explore.

THE HOUSE: The Family Farmhouse sits in the middle of the property with a view of sprawling meadows and a small pond. Explore our trails through the surrounding woods and visit the 40-year-old dock on our little pond. Swing in the shady grove and have coffee in the sunny backyard. Up at the barn, say hello to our two donkeys and the friendly barn cat.

GUEST ACCESS: Guests have exclusive, private use of the house, porches, and hot tub. You may also enjoy the many other outdoor spaces. The owner comes to the farm most days for maintenance and upkeep and is happy to help with anything you need. For the most part, guests have the property entirely to themselves.

REQUIRED READING: Down Yonder Farm is our family's longtime home with a long, rich cultural history. All guests must agree to read and sign a document containing important information before your stay.

Please make sure to read our house rules below before requesting a stay.

INTERNET: We'll be honest, it's not great! We're limited to Brightspeed DSL at this time. Streaming TV shows and movies and basic web-based tasks are pretty reliable. Zoom generally works fine, but for important video meetings, etc., plan to work elsewhere. Upload speeds are very slow. We use wifi for phone calls, as cell coverage is also limited. We have a land line for emergencies. Embrace the semi-unplugged life!

SAFETY: Our 115-year-old house is well-cared for, with the inevitable joys of historic houses! There are also hazards that come with the territory for farm properties. Certain outbuildings, barns, and other spaces are strictly off-limits to guests. Guests assume all risks of being in natural settings and on a farm property.

EVENTS AND GATHERINGS: Parties, events, and large gatherings beyond the registered guests are strictly forbidden without prior written permission. For inquiries about nonprofit or corporate retreats, small private events, day visits, etc., please reach out through our website. (An easy search should get you there!).
